Nevada Conservation Corps Crew Coordinator

Description: The Nevada Conservation Corps (NCC), a program within the Great Basin Institute, launched in 1999 with the goal of promoting ecological literacy through conservation service. With our AmeriCorps grant we have been able to provide that experience to thousands of members. As the Crew Coordinator you will work closely with NCC Program Director and other program staff to coordinate and oversee up to 20, 5-person AmeriCorps restoration crews at a time over a year-round field season across Nevada. NCC restoration crews work with land management agencies throughout the state on projects including trail construction and maintenance, invasive species eradication, habitat enhancement for native and endangered species, illegal road decommissioning, barrier construction, and fuels reduction. The role of the Crew Coordinator is to provide logistical support for the crews and their leaders so they may have a successful field season. The Coordinator communicates with agency partners to schedule work tours and provide crew leaders the details and scope of their projects so they may adequately prepare for the week’s work. The Coordinator also works closely with crew leaders to provide guidance and support as they learn to lead and manage their crews in the field. The Crew Coordinator will also work to ensure that all program activities, service, and member management are in compliance with GBI, NCC and AmeriCorps standards and policies.

Essential functions and duties will include:
•Handle all logistical planning for crew projects including dates, type of work, necessary equipment, and pertinent skills needed to complete the tasks safely and effectively;
•Communicate regularly with agency partners via phone and email to ensure agency satisfaction;
•Monitor project agreement funding balances to ensure funds are available to cover planned work schedule;
•Work to provide a positive experience for the AmeriCorps members;
•Coordinate monthly meetings and trainings with crew leaders and assist them with crew management issues;
•Collect, review, and submit all weekly crew administrative paperwork;
•Gather and process data needed to invoice project partners;
•Facilitates project site visits and in field training with crews;
•Assist in operations and maintenance of field station, equipment, and vehicles;
•Follow and enforce policies detailed in GBI Personnel Handbook and Crew Member Handbook;
•Support NCC field rigging and derigging operations on a weekly basis, including leadership meetings on Monday mornings;
•Communicate with NCC Operations Coordinators on specific project issues and logistics;
•Assist project partners in developing new projects and drafting budgets and agreements;
•Coordinate with other staff to develop and disseminate standards for evaluations, and conduct crew lead evaluations;
•Other duties as assigned.

Reports To: Nevada Conservation Corps Program Director

Contract Timeline:
Preferred Start Date: April 2, 2018

Position available until filled.

Yearly renewable contracts are available.

This position is based in GBI’s Northern Nevada office in Reno, NV

Compensation and Benefits:
•Rate of Pay: $32,000

•Eligible for 401K and paid health and dental benefits after 90-day probationary period.

Job Qualifications:
Education, Experience and Skill preferences: 
•Bachelor’s Degree in Natural resources Management, Conservation Leadership, Environmental or other Education, or three years of related work equivalency;
•Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
•Experience with grant writing and administration;
•Experience with project management;
•Familiarity with Nevada environmental community-based agencies, services and resources; Previous leadership and supervision experience;
•Experience in AmeriCorps or volunteer management and leadership development;
•Comfortable living and working in the field;
•Strong initiative, hard work ethic, and desire to advance NCC crew program;
•Proficiency with ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, and Excel;
•A valid driver’s license;
•Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
